Writing this week about mum, and how her memory lives on in what we do - expect knitting and crafting, cake baking and bowl licking and a big dollop of love.
Such a wonderful read, Sue, it so reminded me of my mum too. I'm sorry to read you lost your mum this year, hopefully writing about her and your precious memories bring some comfort.x
Thank you Lindsey, I’m so glad you enjoyed your read and it evoked memories of your own mum. I’m loving using this grieving time to focus on my mum and write about her. It’s starting to blossom into quite a collection.
I am finding Substack a very good place to express a lot of feelings I have being keeping inside, it’s very cathartic, Sue. Look forward to reading more, and I still lick the bowl, it’s one of life’s pleasures. x
My mother told me that the seemingly strongest people may get the least support because people don’t think they need it, it’s always worth remembering and checking them out, we’re both victims of this Sue
It’s amazing how often I end up mentally telling my mother something that has happened. So I really do get it. That whole bowl licking, brought such intense memories of my childhood! And licking icing sugar off the spoon too!
What a beautiful piece, Sue! I read it with tears in my eyes. I’m so sorry for the loss of your wonderful mum, but how lovely it is that you keep her alive in your traditions and passions, and can see her legacy shining beyond you, too, as you bake and play with your granddaughter. Those we love are never really gone. A gorgeous, life affirming piece 🩷
Thank you so much for your kind comment, Kathy. I feel a big pull to write about mum at the moment, it being only three months since she died. I see your Substack is called Little Love Stories and I suppose this is exactly what I am trying to write! Off to read more of your writing....xx
Oh gosh that is so recent! Writing can be so cathartic and healing, can’t it? I’m looking forward to reading more about her. She was clearly very lucky to have a daughter who adored her so much. 🥲
Ah thank you. The little love stories are my favourite in life! X
It was very recent, but just nine weeks after she died, on their wedding anniversary, my father had a series of three strokes and all our energy at the moment is being directed into helping him. I therefore, really value this space to sit with mum and think about her.
Oh my goodness, I can only imagine what a difficult time this must have been for you all. Amidst the chaos and worry, I’m so glad you have this special, quiet place to reflect on your mum. Sending love and I really hope your father recovers well 🩷

Indeed, and sometimes those who shout the loudest are the loneliest
Absolutely beautiful Sue ❤️
Ah, thank you Sarah - I enjoyed writing it - it helps me feel close to mum!
